Nitsch Engineering is thrilled to announce that Ryan Gordon, PE, ENV SP, LEED Green Associate, Project Manager at Nitsch has been named a 2024 Ten Outstanding Young Leader by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Foundation and City Awake!
Each year, 10 young professionals are honored for the exemplary work they provide in their respective industries and their dedication to improving their communities. The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce states that “the awards recognize the contributions of current and emerging young, local leaders who have demonstrated professional, personal, cultural, and civic commitments to advance their community, organization, and region.” Ryan has been recognized this year for his leadership on a number of projects throughout the City of Boston, as well as his LGBTQ+ advocacy.
Ryan has been an employee at Nitsch for 12 years. As a Project Manager in our Civil Engineering department, he leads civil engineering for Boston development projects that help shape the City. This has included projects such as the redevelopment of Overlook Terrace at Orient Heights, an affordable housing development in East Boston; the rehabilitation of the former William Barton Rogers School into The Pryde apartment building, a new mixed-income housing community that serves Boston’s LGBTQ+ seniors; and the construction of the Embrace Memorial and 1965 Freedom Plaza on the Boston Common, honoring the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. and Loretta Scott King.
Ryan is also a committed LGBTQ+ advocate. He is a founder and leader of Pride@Nitsch, Nitsch’s employee resource group dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace for LGBTQ+ employees and supportive allies, and he serves on Nitsch’s Council for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). Ryan also co-founded Out in Design, a grassroots group that connects LGBTQ+ Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry professionals in Boston.
“I am honored to be recognized among this group of dedicated and talented individuals” Ryan said in response to receiving the award. “As a Boston resident and professional engineer, I am proud to play such a vital role in designing sustainable urban sites that strengthen our communities. In Greater Boston’s AEC industry, I saw the need for a network of support and professional development opportunities for LGBTQ+ professionals. I am committed to help foster an inclusive workplace at Nitsch and advocate for inclusiveness across the industry.”
“Ryan is a collaborative, ethical, empathetic, and influential leader who enhances the Boston community where he lives and works” said Deb Danik, PE, LEED AP BD+C, Vice President and Director of Civil Engineering at Nitsch. “We have worked together to deliver project work and serve clients, and we have worked closely to establish and execute development plans to reach his career goals. Through his project work, Ryan is a diligent mentor and teacher, working to support the development and career goals of other employees. Clients trust and value his advice, and he delivers technically sound designs to meet sustainability goals, community improvement goals, and project schedules. We’re so proud of all he’s accomplished!”
