The Residences at Brighton Marine, located on the Brighton Marine Health Center campus, provides mixed-income housing for veterans in 101 units of housing on a 1.44-acre site. The community includes a new six-story building and an adapted historic building with units ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments, an onsite parking garage, and covered bike spaces – all alongside onsite clinical, behavioral health, and family services to support veterans and their dependents.
Nitsch provided civil engineering services for the transit-oriented project, which worked to integrate green infrastructure strategies, including surface swales and a subsurface infiltration system, into the project to reduce runoff velocity, prevent erosion, and provide water quality treatment.
In addition to working with the design team during the study phase, we provided utility design and permitting for the building and site. We handled permitting with the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA), Massachusetts Historical Commission, Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC), and the Boston Public Improvement Commission (PIC). We prepared an early site package to facilitate the construction demolition schedule. We also provided construction administration services.
The project achieved LEED Gold certification.
