The new four-story structure at Heywood Hospital houses a main lobby, a 20-bed emergency center, a 25-bed surgical floor, a 19-bed telemetry and medical surgery floor, a six-bed intensive care unit, an in-patient nursing unit, and a mechanical penthouse. The project included designated ambulance bays and a new front entrance to the community hospital.
Nitsch designed the site utilities, layout, and grading, which addressed the eight-foot drop from the main entry to the main visitor parking lot. We analyzed vehicular access to the new addition and the existing building. We also provided assistance for the sewer connection permit, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit through the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals permits.
