We’re proud to announce that Kelsey Kern, EIT, LEED AP was recognized by the Environmental Business Council of New England, Inc. (EBC) with a 2024 Ascending Leader Award. This award recognizes Kelsey for her exceptional leadership and industry involvement early in her career. It was presented at the EBC 28th Annual Garden Party on August 1, 2024, in Boston, Massachusetts.
Kelsey is a graduate of Kansas State University, where she earned a Master of Landscape Architecture degree. She also earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska. She joined Nitsch Engineering in 2020 and became an Engineer in Training in 2021.
While at Nitsch, she has been an active, vibrant member of our team and the greater engineering community. She represents Nitsch in several industry associations, including the Boston Society of Landscape Architects (BSLA) and the American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI). She also offers volunteer or pro-bono work for multiple programs aimed at introducing K-12 students, in particular girls, to engineering as an interesting, important, achievable career path.
Kelsey has also helped shape new work by assisting in the creation of the Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC)’s Green Infrastructure Handbook and Green Infrastructure Operations & Maintenance manual, as well as Nitsch’s company CAD Standards Manual.
Kelsey is driven, community-minded, and forward-thinking, and we’re proud of how much she has accomplished in the first four years of her career as an environmental professional! We hope you’ll join us in congratulating her for this much-deserved award.
