Expanding Opportunities with Dearborn STEM Academy

On Tuesday, May 21st, Nitsch hosted Dearborn STEM Academy students in our office to learn about stormwater management!

Dearborn STEM Academy is a Boston Public School that focuses on providing 6th-12th grade students with a “deep understanding of the language, concepts, and ideas represented in STEM fields.” Their monthly speaker series helps to introduce students to professionals working in different engineering fields.

Led internally by Paige Blanchard, PE and Moses Motovu, Nitsch talked to the students about how green infrastructure works and how it benefits communities and the environment. The students then had the opportunity to build a model stormwater infiltration system.

Working with Dearborn STEM Academy students for the past couple of years has been a rewarding way to engage students with the idea of engineering – and we’re already looking forward to next year!
