Canstruction Boston does an amazing (and entertaining) job each year of raising food and funds to help people experiencing food insecurity in Massachusetts – a number that has spiked over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. After last year’s virtual design competition, which Nitsch Engineering supported as a sponsor and fundraiser, we were thrilled to get back to building this year, as a partner of the amazing Wilson Butler Architects design team.
The 2,875-can structure, “The Show Will Go On,” is a celebration of the entertainment spaces we are excited to return to (and which Wilson Butler specializes in designing!). This theater stage distills classic theatrical elements through cans of healthy food: the articulated proscenium surround in shades of tan and gold, the classic white lights, the black stagehouse walls, and a classic red flowing curtain. The stage is set and lit up for the return of theatrical or musical productions now that performance spaces are opening up again! The stage is flanked on each side with iconic Playbill covers of Phantom of the Opera, Hamilton, Wicked, and Hairspray honoring the long history of the theater. The back of the structure is the stage door, welcoming the performers with a message celebrating that theater is back!

In addition to supporting the scaled down build this year – which raises important can donations for the Merrimack Valley Food Bank (MVFB) – we’re raising funds to help support their work in our communities. The MVFB serves 84,000+ people per month by providing food pantries, shelters, and meal programs with the food they need to serve individuals and families.
We hope you’ll join us in supporting the MVFB – you can donate to our fundraiser on our Facebook page here before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2nd:
(Thanks to Facebook for creating a method for non-profits to raise funds without charging them a credit card processing fee!)
Of course, you can always donate to the MVFB on their website as well!
