Exploring Municipal Markets at Connect 351

On January 23 and 24, ten engineers from Nitsch Engineering attended the Massachusetts Municipal Association’s annual conference, Connect 351, for which Nitsch was a Blue Ribbon sponsor. Those engineers were Bryan Zimolka, PE, ENV SP, Senior Transportation Project Manager; Charles Lucchesi, EIT, Senior Structural Designer; Jamie Johnston, PE, Senior Structural Engineer; Jeffrey Bandini, PE, PTOE, Senior Project Manager; John Michalak, PE, ENV SP, Director of Transportation Engineering; Kristen Antunes, EIT, Senior Transportation/Traffic Designer; Madeline Augustine, PE, Transportation Engineer; Matthew Styckiewicz, PE, Structural Project Manager; Nathan Rosencranz, PE, SE, Director of Structural Engineering; and Rachel Graham, EIT, Senior Transportation Designer.  They had a great time talking to attendees, running our Plinko board and giving out fun prizes, and making connections.

Connect 351 is particularly interesting to attend because it isn’t industry-specific; it’s open to any organization that does business with municipalities. We saw booths for dentists’ offices, urban holiday décor designers, and playground equipment retailers, as well as our peers in related industries like renewable energy and sustainable construction.

Our engineers found Connect 351 to be a great way to connect in person with municipal officials, as well as representatives from other industries, such as land development firms and electric vehicle software developers, who might be team members on future projects. The reception allowed our engineers to follow up on connections made during the day.

“It was really cool to hear from people who live in and know a town really deeply, and to hear how we help them solve their problems is very rewarding,” said Madeline Augustine. “It’s why I went into engineering in the first place.”
