The 2016 Moving Together Conference brings together transportation leaders focused on a wide range of issues – planning, public health, bike and pedestrian safety, transit, and education, among others. We’re excited to have a number of engineers from our transportation group in attendance at tomorrow’s event, including Transportation Project Manager John Michalak, PE, ENV SP, as a speaker on a panel!
In Planning 101: Mass. Ave. in East Arlington – A Case Study (Session 3E), John will share the story of how the design team collaborated with MassDOT, MBTA, neighborhood advocacy groups, and the Town of Arlington to turn initially negative public sentiment around and implement a number of significant Complete Streets accomplishments. Complete street design elements on the project included improving pedestrian safety and ADA accessibility, adding new bicycle lanes, and improving transit accessibility by adding new bus stop accommodations. The project also involved streetscape improvements such as landscape planters, new pedestrian lighting, and bicycle racks.
Joining John on the panel, which begins at 1:15 p.m. will be Phil Goff of East Arlington Livable Streets, Laura Wiener from the Town of Arlington, and moderator Eric Bourassa from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.
